Who is Charlotte Danielson?
Charlotte Danielson is an educational consultant and an expert
in assessing teacher effectiveness and designing evaluations that include both
teacher effectiveness and implement professional learning. She has taught in various grade levels ranging from kindergarten to college but has also served as an administrator, curriculum director, staff developer and economist. She specializes in the areas of teacher quality and evaluation, curriculum planning, performance assessment, and professional development. Danielson serves as a consultant to state departments of education, national organizations, and has done a lot of work over seas. Through her accomplishments she has created a group called "The Danielson Group" consisting of hand picked consultants whose goal is to enhance the professional practices of educators and strengthen student learning. Danielson believes that "the quality of teaching is the most important factor for successful learning". Through her work she has designed a strict system of evaluation for teachers in order to perfect the education system which is called "The Framework for teaching". Her framework includes a meticulously designed assessment system that allows for quality teachers and better learning. She believes assessment is necessary and crucial to ensure only the highest quality of educators to teacher our children.

The Danielson Group
The Charlotte Danielson Groups consists of a group of consultants that were hand picked by Danielson herself and their goal is to enhance the professional practices of educators to improve student learning by connecting Danielson's principles and framework into the educational system. The group offers workshops and training courses to those who are interested in following Danielson's framework. Danielson's main goal is to improve the quality of teachers world wide as she believes the key to successful learning begins and ends with quality teaching. Her group of consultants is in place to arm educators with the tools for proper teaching and evaluation to implement successful learning.
The Framework for Teaching
- Charlotte Danielson designed a meticulous outline for evaluating teachers in hopes to ensure only quality educator sin the educational system. Danielson believes that "All of the important ideas of teaching, the complex idea of teaching, fall into four categories or domains". The four domains included in her framework are:
- Planning and Preparation
- The Classroom Environment
- Instruction
- Professional Responsibilities
The evaluation is based off of a four degree scale (in order from worst to best):
- Unsatisfactory
- Basic
- Proficient
- Distinguished
